The insider's guide to Scientology
By Sunaina Gulati for CNN

(CNN) -- As Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes prepare to tie the knot this
weekend, here's all you need to know about Scientology, the wedding
ceremony and the unusual gifts Tom will be presenting his new bride.

A cat for Kat?

Rumors are doing the rounds that Tom must promise to give Katie a comb and a cat during their wedding ceremony. The bride-to-be should expect the Scientology minister to offer this advice as part of the
tradition: "Now, Tom, girls need clothes and food and tender happiness and frills, a pan, a comb, perhaps a cat. All caprice, if you will, but still they need them." Katie, on the other hand, should expect to be told: "Hear well, sweet Katie, for promise binds. Young men are free and may forget. Remind him then that you may have necessities and follies, too."

Rather strange, huh? What else can we expect from the wedding?

There are similarities to your normal "I do" weddings -- what with the
whole bridal procession, the traditional roles of the bride's father
and best man and the seating of the respective families and friends.
Now the differences -- or shall we say -- the weird bit. The ceremony
will include fundamental principles of Scientology that will provide
the couple with practical information to assist them in a successful
relationship. In that the A.R.C. is most predominant.

And what in Lord's name would that be?

Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard isolated three elements that make up Understanding: A is Affinity -- which is the degree of closeness, iking or affection one has for something or someone; R is Reality -- which is what we agree on; and C is Communication -- which is of course the interchange of ideas between two people. He says if you increase any one of these points in your dealing with another person you will have greater understanding with that person. And practical common sense tells us understanding is, of course, everything in a successful relationship.

Should we brace ourselves for a happily-ever-after TomKat?

I think I'll wait on that one.

What's this other story about mood rings?

The rings are spoken of as symbols of permanency. They are a reminder to the bride and groom to continue creating the love and understanding they have for one another in order to maintain a successful relationship.

Yeah, blah blah, we know.

Alright then, listen up for this interesting bit. As part of the
ceremony the minister will ask them to make a pact -- that they will
never close their eyes in sleep without healing any breach of
understanding with communication. By this, the love and understanding they have created will remain a reality throughout their future years. In short, TomKat must promise never to go to bed angry. Could be a good tip for all the couples out there having relationship troubles.

There's some bizarre alien-sounding name to the ceremony floating
around, right?

E.N.L.T.C. or Elite Ninth Level Transduction Ceremony (didn't I say
so) is the most solemn and expensive Scientology wedding package
available and not surprisingly the soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. Cruise will
be partaking in that. E.N.L.T.C.s are rarely performed because of
their cost and the demands they make on bride and groom. Both have
been following three days of prayer, fasting, electronic money
transfers, high-colonic cleansings, full-body Brazilian waxes, and
anal bleachings that precede an Elite Ninth Level Transduction
Ceremony

The last E.N.L.T.C. was conducted in 2002 when Lisa Marie Presley
married Nicholas Cage. Bingodulla the Elder, the exalted high minister who wed Ms. Presley and Mr. Cage, will preside over the Cruise-Holmes transduction. Master Bingodulla is reputed to be 2,876 years old in Hubbard Years, the unit of time observed by Ninth Level
Scientologists.

Ok, enough with the voodoo. Tell us something else.

Ms. Holmes has reportedly spent $3,000 on lingerie for her wedding
night. She was spotted visiting La Bra Lingerie in West Hollywood on
the weekend before she flew in to Rome . Purchases are reported to
include a bra, thong, garter belt and silk stockings. She also bought
a silk nightgown and matching robe trimmed with ostrich feathers, a
lace bra and thong set decorated with Swarovski crystals and for those chillier nights, two sets of silk pajamas and matching robes.

And the wedding dress?

Rumor has it that famed fashion designer Giorgio Armani designed not just one, but five dresses for Katie though she has confirmed that she
has selected just the one dress. She was looking to wear "something
sheer and floaty." We can only wait to find out what it looks like.
Armani has also designed a set of outfits for her and Tom to wear
during the three-day celebrations starting November 17.

While the exact location hasn't been revealed, paparazzi has deemed
castle Odescalchi as the most likely place for the wedding ceremony.
Andrea Bocelli, the famous tenor, is expected to perform at the
celebrations. Also, Katie is set to wear Clive Christian No. 1
perfume, which costs $2,350 an ounce, during the extravagant nuptials.

Which big names are attending?

At the top of the list are Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony.
Then there's Will Smith with wife Jada Pinkett Smith in tow. Katie's
new best friend Victoria Beckham and husband David Beckham (will we be needing to say Sir Becks soon?), Brooke Shields and husband Chris Hency. And I can't forget the Brangelina duo who will be coming all the way -- Brad and Angelina are currently in India filming A Mighty
Heart. With the guest list being so starry, Tom has proved yet again
that he's top of the A-list pile, third wedding or not. It is also said that the couple have spent around $9.4 million on the wedding and have gone to the extent of jetting out their closest friends and colleagues to share their special moment.

Wait! We still don't know what Scientology is?

Scientology literally translates to "the study of truth." It is the
study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and
all of life. It comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain
fundamental truths such as -- Man is an immortal, spiritual being. His
experience extends well beyond a single lifetime. His capabilities are
unlimited, even if not presently realized -- and those capabilities
can be realized. He is able to not only solve his own problems,
accomplish his goals and gain lasting happiness, but also achieve new, higher states of awareness and ability.

You still want more?

I didn't think so.

Need I say more -- I'm certain that's enough to keep you happy for a
(long) while.

Paramount dumps Cruise, Cruise spreads fertilizer

Aug 22, 2006

Paramount studio said Tuesday they would sever its long and profitable relationship with Cruise/Wagner Productions, Cruise's company with producing partner Paula Wagner. Sumner Redstone, chairman of Viacom, Inc., which owns Paramount Pictures, told the Wall Street Journal that Cruise's "recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount." (the studio's truth)

But Wagner told The Associated Press that agents for Cruise/Wagner Productions stopped negotiating with Paramount over a week ago and since secured independent financing, effectively taking any contract-renewal deal off the table.(Tom's truth)

"As much as we like him personally," Redstone is quoted as saying, "we thought it was wrong to renew his deal." He then cited Cruise's recent conduct as the reason.(studio's truth)

Wagner said she and Cruise had been considering independent financing for their company "for a long time." For us, this is a very new and exciting direction. We look forward to working with all the studios." (Tom's truth)

Tom, your star sets as your popularity dwindles. Wake up before you're behind a grill flipping burgers.

Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes Welcome New Baby

Apr 19, 5:45 AM (ET)

By SANDY COHEN LOS ANGELES (AP)

Word of the world's most famous silent birth has finally been heard. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, the public lovebirds dubbed TomKat by the media, "joyously welcomed the arrival" of a baby girl Tuesday, said Cruise spokesman Arnold Robinson.

The girl, named Suri, came into the world at 7 pounds, 7 ounces and 20 inches long. Her name has its origins in Hebrew, meaning "princess," or in Persian, meaning "red rose," Robinson said in a statement.

"Both mother and daughter are doing well," the publicist said.

Details about the birth weren't disclosed, but it had been planned to take place as a silent procedure under the tenants of the Church of Scientology, to which both Cruise and Holmes belong.

In a strange twist of fate, Suri was born on the same day actress Brooke Shields gave birth to her daughter, Grier Hammond Henchy. Shields and Cruise had a public spat last year after he criticized the actress for taking antidepressants following the birth of her first child.

At the Beverly Hills home of Cruise and Holmes on Tuesday, about a dozen reporters and photographers stood outside the gates and a steady stream of tourists and curious passers-by stopped to take a look. Some visitors left baby gifts outside the gate, which was shrouded in black to keep anyone from peering inside.

Meanwhile, a publicity blitz for the new Cruise movie "Mission: Impossible III," which was to begin Wednesday, has been put on hold. The actor has canceled all press appearances, according to Paramount Studios.

No Divinity In Scientology

By Jeannette Walls MSNBC

Updated: 2:41 a.m. ET April 18, 2006

Tom Cruise has been sitting down with a lot of reporters lately — but one recent chat didn't go so well. The "Mission Impossible" star walked out of an interview with Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet S ö ndag after the conversation turned to his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman.

The conversation was all smiles until reporter Bjorn Benkow insisted that experts say that dyslexia cannot be cured by Scientology as Cruise has claimed. There was an awkward pause, then Cruise burst into laughter. "I'm going to, in any case, admit that you have the courage of a madman," according to our translator. "This is something no journalist has dared say to me face-to-face. . . . Scientology is a religion without divinity. Its teaching is a spiritual liberation from life's problems that can only be reached through advice, courses and deep studies. Your cynical media colleagues cast doubt over all the good that we do by spreading a bunch of hocus pocus about us."

Then the reporter mentioned Kidman and the two children that she and Cruise adopted. "Now you've gone over the line," Cruise replied. Then, according to Benkow, one of Cruise's two bodyguards put his hand on the reporter's shoulder, and Cruise said: "Now, unfortunately, I have to end this, Mr. . . . ?"

Hear That, Mr. & Mrs.Holmes?

Katie Holmes was raised a Catholic, but, says fiance Tom Cruise, their soon-to-arrive baby will not have a Catholic baptism.

"No," Cruise told Diane Sawyer, "No, I mean you can be Catholic and be a Scientologist. You can be Jewish and be a Scientologist. But we're just Scientologists."

The 27-year-old Holmes' switch to Scientology has sparked reports of a rift between her devout parents, Ohio natives Martin and Kathleen, and the 43-year-old actor, who introduced her to Scientology.

However, Cruise shrugs off the stories of family friction, telling Sawyer he's close with "the whole family" and - "absolutely, yes" - they approve of Scientology.

Let's take a test. Stand up.

1) If you believe Cruise's first statement--you can be a Catholic/Jew and be a Scientologist--raise your left foot.

2) If you believe the second, that Katie's family absolutely approves of her switch to Scientology, raise your right foot.

Hear that thump? It's the sound of cult members around the world landing on their butts.

Cruise thinks everyone is that gullible.

Here's the truth;

"Although there is no policy or Scriptural mandate expressly requiring
Scientologists to renounce other religious beliefs or membership in
other churches, as a practical matter Scientologists are expected to and do become fully devoted to Scientology to the exclusion of other faiths. As Scientologists, they are required to look only to
Scientology Scriptures for the answers
to the fundamental questions of their existence and to seek enlightenment only from Scientology."

'South Park' feeling some celeb heat?
Cable net abruptly pulls repeat of Scientology episode

The battle between "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Scientology is escalating.

The dust-up gained steam last week when Isaac Hayes, a practicing Scientologist who has long been the voice of the character Chef, quit after objecting to a "South Park" episode called "Trapped in the Closet," which lampooned both the religion and Tom Cruise. The skirmish continued this week, when Comedy Central abruptly pulled a repeat of that episode that was scheduled to air Wednesday evening. Showing instead was another memorable seg which featured Hayes's character, called "Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls."

Blog reports pegged the mysterious episode switch to objections raised by Cruise, who, the reports stated, threatened to not promote "Mission: Impossible 3," the summer tentpole for Viacom-owned Paramount. A spokesman for Cruise denied that Cruise had ever made such a threat. "He never said any such thing about 'Mission: Impossible 3," the spokesman said.

While the "South Park" creators didn't directly comment on Comedy Central's decision to pull the episode, they issued an unusual statement to Daily Variety indicating the battle is not over. "So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for earth has just begun! Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies. Curses and drat! You have obstructed us for now, but your feeble bid to save humanity will fail! Hail Xenu!!!"

The duo signed the statement "Trey Parker and Matt Stone, servants of the dark lord Xenu."

Was This The Deal?

From the 6/17/05 NY Daily News 'Daily Dish'
So here's what I'm hearing about that relationship. A source VERY close to the deal is saying there's a contract.

It's worth $5 million.

It's for five years.

There will be no sex.

The deal was sealed June 7.

That's what I'm hearing.

Girlfriend Interviews

Cruise Encounters of the Third Kind

from http://www.radarmagazine.com/fresh-intelligence/

Katie Holmes may have fallen for it, but Tom Cruise's sci-fi
seduction technique scared the bejeezus out of Scarlett Johansson, a
source close to the actress says. Weeks before he began wooing his
brainwashed bride-to-be, Cruise made repeated phone calls to the
19-year-old starlet-who was then set to co-star with him in Mission
Impossible III-imploring her to meet him at the Scientology Celebrity
Center in L.A. But when the actress finally agreed, the supposedly
professional get-together took an oddly spiritual turn. "[Cruise]
took me into this room, which was stifling hot, and was showing me all kinds of info about joining the church," Johansson told our source.
"The whole time he didn't even offer me a cookie!" Instead, he
offered her dinner-and a glimpse into the Twilight Zone.

After two hours of proselytizing, our source says Cruise opened a door to reveal a second room full of upper-level Scientologists who had been waiting to dine with the pair, at which point the cool-headed ingenue
politely excused herself. Soon after the meeting, Johansson dropped out of Mission Impossible III, reportedly due to scheduling conflicts.
Asked about the incident, Johansson's momager, Melanie Johansson, referred Radar to a publicist, who did not return calls or emails
seeking comment. After striking out with Johansson, Cruise reportedly turned his attentions to 24-year-old Jessica Alba, 22-year-old Kate
Bosworth, and 18-year-old Lindsay Lohan, before settling on the
26-year-old Holmes. As far we know, Cruise's War of the Worlds
co-star, Dakota Fanning, was never under consideration.

Welcome to Scientology, Katie Holmes!

You must already know, and I just can't talk about it...it's more than I can stand. Read all about it here.

All I know is-- "Mimi is my best friend. I love her," Tom said.

Mimi Rogers/Tom Cruise--divorced in 1990

"Nicole is my best friend and I love her," Tom said.

Nicole Kidman/TomCruise--divorced in 2001.

Katie, sweetie--I hope you're not really in love with him.
